FAQ's and Membership Information:-

Am I fast enough?  We are open to all new members, but ideally you will have a basic level of running fitness already, in order to maximise enjoyment and participation with club sessions. A good barometer is what time it takes you to complete a parkrun (5k). Our easy paced 5k running group which meets on Tuesdays is covering this distance in about 35-40 minutes. If you don’t know your parkrun time, there are plenty locally to get involved with – you will find Edmonton RC members at Grovelands, Pymmes or Gunpowder Park. We find that new members improve rapidly when they participate in structured running with groups of similar ability, and it is often underpinned by consistently building up confidence in running at a weekly parkrun before joining.

I’m nervous about joining! We do really appreciate that joining a running club can be a daunting prospect (we were there once too!), so we encourage prospective members to try running with us for free on a Tuesday or a Thursday evening before committing to join. We can meet you, discuss your running experience and any specific goals and then will ensure you are in a running group of appropriate pace. Our mid-week run groups have backmarkers, and pace groups, so nobody gets left behind or lost during the session. Prospective new members are welcome to attend up to three trial sessions.

How often do I have to participate?

Attendance at training sessions is down to you – there is no obligation or pressure to attend every training session or race. Members decide when they chose to participate – all we ask is that you register online for each session that you plan to attend (this is also a good way to see who else will be participating, and who you may run with).

What benefits does full membership bring?

Firstly, our membership price is fully inclusive, so there are no additional costs in the year (except optional social events, which are subsidised where possible). Full membership benefits include:

  • Three club training sessions per week, 52 weeks of the year (rain or shine!)
  • An Edmonton RC running vest (on first year of joining) worth £25.
  • Monthly track session at Enfield Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.
  • Access to England Athletics qualified Run Leaders for guidance and support.
  • Use of Hazelwood Sports Club facilities on club nights (e.g. bar, showers and changing).
  • UK Athletics membership (with official Power Of 10 and RunBritain rankings).
  • Discounted entry to races as an affiliated runner with Edmonton Running Club.
  • Entry to Herts Road-Racing League during summer season and Herts Cross-Country League and Chingford League during winter season.
  • Participation in the ERC Mile and 5k handicap series.
  • A chance to win a place in the London Marathon (subject to terms).
  • Access to a busy social calendar to enjoy.

How much does it cost?

Membership fee for 2025 is £95. The membership year starts from 1st February and a sliding scale operates for new members joining from 1st June.

We also offer a discounted rate for 2025 of £55 for full-time students, associates and affiliates:

Associate membership is only available to existing members of Hazelwood Sports Club.

Affiliate membership prohibits the member from using or running from Hazelwood Sports Club.  Thus they are only entitled to join the Sunday morning training runs from Whitewebbs, track sessions and club and league races.

Student membership is designed for current full-time students. If you are interested in this membership type - please get in touch via the contact form.

How old do I have to be?

All members must be aged at least 18 in the year of membership, although younger family members, are welcome at many of our social events. You are never too old to be a member of Edmonton RC.
