ERC gladiators were at it again over the weekend victoriously conquering more distances - an absolutely great weekend of running by all.
ST ALBAN'S HALF MARATHON ( Did you know after the Roman invasion of 43 AD, the city was renamed Verulamium and became one of the largest and most prosperous towns in the province of Britannia. In around AD 50, Verulamium was granted the rank of municipium, meaning its citizens had “Latin Rights”.
Miranda Padley: It seems her injury has rejuvenated Miranda and she is breaking all the records and is setting PBs in almost every race she does. Her hard work to build up stamina and strength after her injury is now being rewarded as evidenced by her PB performance - Miranda broke the two hour barrier and finished in a stunning time of 1.58.11- Great running Miranda.
Hannah Pert Nice: She is an absolute joy to run with as she will always have something to talk about and before you know it ten miles have gone by! Another fantastic run by Hannah- her metronomic style of running is impressive and she crossed the line with her trade mark smile in a great time of 2.20.50- Marvelous
Jan Hazirci: In another century Jan would have been fighting the Roman gladiators at St Alban's Coliseum! Jan certainly has the gladiatorial gene - she races almost every week and in every race Jan gives 110% as evidenced by her most impressive and consistent times. Invariably she also wins her age cat. At the weekend she ambled through the course in an impressive time of 1.41.26 - Gladiatrice Jan.
Caroline Wicks: She tore up the records with some blistering runs before her record breaking marathon run in April. Caroline runs with quite assurance and has amazing tenacity and consistency without breaking sweat! Another great run in a tremendous time of 1.58.33 Caroline we await more records.
Susie Dutoit: A perennial racer is Susie- even when she is not race fit Susie will enter races and finish them. She has battled her way through injury and has since run half marathons and a full marathon and yet she wants more. St Alban's must have been her ??? probably 20 plus half marathon!!! Susie crossed the line in a time of 2.26.27
Simon Timmis: Young Simon is busy busy at work and training runs become difficult to fit in but his enthusiastic smile and zest to run is overwhelming. Simon sauntered the roads and paths of Verulamium in exemplary fashion 1.46.47 - Gladiatorial man!
Austin Ot Slatts: Fresh from his double whammy marathons Austen is now quietly in training of his 100k ultra next month. This was a standard no nonsense race from Austen as he simply used it as a great little training run and cantered through in a time of 1.54.51.Ultra is his next goal
MAN V HORSE 22.5 MILES TRAIL RUN -
Sounds like a fun race but !!!! Consider this - it is a race between runners and horses and riders over a very challenging course which includes several steep inclines and declines. Underfoot are Roadways, Forestry tracks, Farmland , Rocky surfaces etc; 4,000 feet of elevation over 22.5 miles.
Victoria Lovelock and Vasso Vassiliou accepted the challenge and promptly conquered the welsh beasts and hills. It appears they both enjoyed the pain and the glory judging from the photographs!!
